JULIA MERK

Substitute Instructor

Julia Merk is an educator, dancer and performer from Massachusetts. Currently Julia is a senior at Springfield College (SC) studying dance (BA) and early childhood education (BS). Julia has been dancing since the age of two and finds deep love for teaching younger students dance. She has taught children ages eighteen months to twelve years old at Cathy Taylor School of Dance, Betty Gunderson School of Dance, and Impressions Academy of Dance. She has also been a facilitator for activities with students in Springfield Public Schools working with children from Brookings, Debarry and Duggan Middle School.

At Springfield College she has had many opportunities to work with different renowned guest artists and faculty. She has been in guest artists work by Tatiana Desourdian (Passion Fruit Dance Company), Monica Bill Barnes, (Monica Bill Barnes and Company) and Ana María Álvarez (CONTRA-TIEMPO). She has also worked with Springfield College faculty members Kodee Van Nort, Sarah Zehnder (Zehnder Dance), Maureen Shea and Noel Staples Freedman (Berkshire African Dance and Drum Collective). She has also had the opportunity to perform in the adjudicated concerts at the American College Dance Association (ACDA) numerous times as well as performed in festivals such as Boston Dance Studios Spring Showcase and the 2024 Spring for Spring Dance Festival.
